Missing Egyptian Blogger Detained in State Security Headquarters

Egyptian blogger Mohamed Adel has been missing for five days – five days in which nobody heard from him or knew of his whereabouts.

Now, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) says that the blogger, who runs the blog Meit [Ar], which translates to Already Dead in English, is being held at the State Security headquarters in Cairo, also known as “Lazogli”, where torture has been practiced on the infamous fourth floor.

ANHRI condemned the arrest of the young blogger, who has been kidnapped and held in an unknown place since November 20. The Cairo-based NGO revealed in a Press release that:

Adel’s house was surrounded by forty soldiers, special police forces and three police vans who broke into his home, made a search of his house and confiscated books and CDs. The twenty year old blogger was outside his house during the police campaign. It seems that police had been keeping a track on his phone, and he was kidnapped while he was on his way to meet his friend who is a journalist

Adel's friends are spreading banners demanding his freedom over Facebook – with some of them replacing their profile pictures with his. They are also calling for an open strike in front of the General Prosecutor office until their friend is freed Meanwhile, the blogger's father has filed two lawsuits against the attorney-general demanding his son's whereabouts be revealed immediately and the general prosecutor confirmed that his son was wanted for questioning unofficially.
