Tal al-Molouhi, a Syrian blogger, was arrested by Syrian state security agents for posting poems on her blog about Palestine. Till now she is detained with no charges and no trial, whereabouts unknown, that her mother has appealed the Syrian president for her release. The Arabic blogosphere is calling for support.

Egypt: Blogger Released After More Than two Years in Detention

After about three years of detention, the Egyptian blogger Mus'ad Abu Fagr was finally released on Tuesday, June 13th, 2010. Though more than eight release orders were issued to him since his arrest on 26 December 2007, the Ministry of Interior used to renew each time his detention. The decision to set Abu Fagr free came as part of an effort to reduce growing tensions between Egyptian Security Services and Sinai Bedouins.

Earlier this month, the April 6 Youth Movement staged a protest in front of the Egyptian Peoples Assembly calling for more political freedoms and an end to Egypt's restrictive “emergency law”, which might be renewed this year, and might be enforced as well by a new “Counter-Terrorism law” which is expected to be extremely repressive. The Egyptian security forces responded to the protesting citizens with a brutal violence, making a score of arrests and convictions.
