Syria: Tal al-Molouhi, a 19-year-old female blogger in jail for almost a year

Tal al-Molouhi, a Syrian blogger, was arrested by Syrian state security agents for posting poems about Palestine on her blog.
Tal, who is 19 years old secondary school student, was arrested on the 27th of December 2009 by the Syrian state security agents, they had her computer confiscated. Till now she is detained with no charges and no trial, whereabouts unknown, that her mother has appealed the Syrian president for her release.

Several Egyptian activists and bloggers have agreed to organize a protest in front of the Syrian Embassy in Egypt.

Activists around the Arabic blogosphere are calling for support by signing this petition, sending emails to the to the Syrian Ambassador in Washington Imad Moustapha, and also a campaign blog entitled Free Tal is now active calling for her freedom along with a Facebook group.

Bahrain: Ali Abdulemam, blogger and Global Voices contributor arrested

Ali Abdulemam, a leading Bahraini blogger and Global Voices Advocacy author, was arrested earlier today by the Bahraini authorities for allegedly spreading “false news” on BahrainOnline.org portal, one of the most popular pro-democracy outlets in Bahrain, amidst the worst sectarian crackdown by the government in years, and accusations of a supposed “terror network” involving several political and human rights activists. The BahrainOnline portal is censored in Bahrain. He sent an email earlier today mentioning that he got a call from the Bahraini national security just before his arrest, then arrested him and alleged that he was trying to flee.

Reportedly the Bahraini government has a long track record of using torture against dissidents http://bit.ly/9kZyJQ and their TV has been broadcasting hateful sectarian messages to justify its crackdown

Ali was arrested before also for content published on his portal, and he contributes occasionally to Global Voices Advocacy and Global Voices Arabic Lingua.

USA: Wikileaks representative detained

Jacob Appelbaum – Wikipedia

Jacob Appelbaum, a representative of Wikileaks, has been detained for 3 hours by US agents at the borders after returning from Holland trip. Appelbaum's bag was searched, receipts from his bag were photocopied, his laptop was inspected. Appelbaum reportedly refused to answer questions without a lawyer present, and was not allowed to make a phone call. His three mobile phones were reportedly taken and not returned. On July 31, he spoke at a DEF CON conference and mentioned his phone being “seized”. After speaking, he was approached by two FBI agents and questioned. Recently Wikileaks published more than 90,000 leaked classified U.S. military documents, while in the same time the White House condemned this action as irresponsible and a harm to national security. These documents reportedly reveal hidden details of the Afghanistan war.

Update:

Dr. Ashraf Magdy was released at 3:00 pm GMT with nothing charged against him, he returned his home safely.

Dr. Ashraf Wagdy, an Egyptian leftist activist, was arrested yesterday at 7 pm GMT. He runs a Facebook group for promoting Mohamed ElBaradie for running for Presidency.

He is on an open hunger strike as a pressure for his release, since the Egyptian police abusively postponed his appearing in front of the public prosecution, holding him without a charge.

Another Facebook group is created calling for his release. Dr. Ashraf Wagdy is an ex-psychiatrist, and the head of Books&Beans library, a major cultural center in Mansoura city, 120 Km north east of Cairo.
