China: Political harassement of bloggers demanding the release of Ilham Tohti

Uighur professor of Minzu University of China and founder of Uighurbiz, IIham Tohti, has disappeared for more than two weeks.

More than 374 signatures have been collected demanding the Chinese government to release him. Some of the people who had signed the statement were harassed and interrogated by police among two of them are Tibetan writer, Woeser and Muslim writer, Ismael An.

According to RFA's report, the signature campaign is started by Woeser and she was “invited” to “tea” with police and now under strict monitor.

Ismael An is among one of the signatories for the statement for releasing Iham Tohti. As a result, local police knocked his door. Before he left home for his tea time, he released his photo in his blog and wrote in English about the “tea invitation” by the police:

My name is ismael.Hui muslim,Freelance writer,Blogger in china.

It’s a first time to release my picture on the net, maybe last time.

I will be investigated questioned in connection with Xinjiang Muslim by chinese police this afternoon in Jinan.

Xinjiang muslim includes Uighur,Kazak,Hui minority.I belong to Hui muslim.Uighur is my brother and sister in the religious.A long period time Uighurs put up with unfair treatment, and I heared in my hometown and witnessed a number of things through travel.Later I began to write some articles to call for protecting mulims in Xinjiang. Since Uighur riots in Urumqi on July 5,I try to defend those oppressed people on chinese website. So chinese police telephoned my father to stop me.Try to shut me up.My words exposed the lies and let some han chinese be unhappy.

The people who can speak for chinese muslim were in silence, especially Arabian. Hui said to be descendants of the ancient Arabs.I am disappointed very much because Arabian muslims already forgot us.When I defended palestine in chinese website and wrote poems for palestinian fighters,I never thought your silence. In many chinese ‘eyes’,we are terrorists and extremists becaust we want to maintain our own faith and cultural traditions. We wouldn't accept the assimilation.

This is perhaps last words. This is the only blog in English by me.My English is bad.

My friends and brothers were still silence, please.I wish you and your families are happy, healthy.

Bye!

Rahman!

Salamalaikum!

Fortunately, the police has not detained him but he was warned not to give more comments on Xinjiang issue. He expressed his mixed feelings with a Chinese poem, Having tea, in his latest blog entry.
